'NOTE: this software includes 1 year license.' I know that the yearly subscription method of charging for software seems to be getting more and more popular, but does it make sense for a data recovery program. Unless you're very unlucky, or very careless, it's not something you're going to use every day. It's going to sit there on your computer ready for when disaster strikes. What happens when you need to recover some deleted files and find that the license for the program has expired? You're going to call the developers some very rude names, and probably vow that you'll never use any of their software ever again.
And on the developer's homepage they have this quote '“I work in the IT industry and this powerful piece of software is unlike anything I’ve ever seen."
-George Papas, New Jersey, USA'
Try visiting GOTD, George, data recovery software is given away here quite regularly.
re: commments
TO: No 5 and No 6 - why knock the "lists" ??
Lists are good !!! and help people to see what is out there.
For me it is always great to have the freedom to compare programs in the same field, the reason being that everyone has different preferences. Some programs seem to work better on my desktop than they do on my laptop, regardless of the O/S.
Freebies from any direction are always gratefully received. And, yes, I do buy programs too if they suit my needs.
Personally, if I have tried the offered free program and it is not satisfactory then I have tried one from the "lists" you deride, until I find something that works the way I want it to.
One other point...
I for one have learnt a LOT from the "lists" by reading their reviews.
Giovanni has unknowingly assisted me on several occasions and quite honestly I am very glad for his comments and "other free offers".
Welcome aboard #2, Ghenghis McCann!
Ok, an overview of the "free" programs everybody keeps mentioning - including Giovanni ;p
These tools mostly are NOT free, but DEMO or LIMITED in amount of data. That will not do: it's all or nothing for me to be free.
Not fully free and does not save ANY data (only preview):
- http://www.krollontrack.com/data-recovery/recovery-software/windows/enterprise-trial/
- http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/DiskGetor-Data-Recovery.shtml
- http://www.stellarinfo.com/
- http://www.4cardrecovery.com/ (I nor Google have ANY idea what the free version can do; for me, it only opens IE man page. But they DO have payed versions... So off my list ;p)
Not fully free are and limited in amount of data to recover:
- http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/free-data-recovery-software.htm (2GB, but http://www.easeus.com/data-recovery-software/ implies full recovery when Windows still boots...)
- http://www.icare-recovery.com/data-recovery-software.html (10 files)
- http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/ (MiniTool - 1GB)
Truly free, no commercial version available (at most donation):
- http://www.cgsecurity.org/ (TestDisk + PhotoRec)
- also see next list where Tim Fisher "... didn't include file recovery programs that are shareware/free trials, nor ones that won't undelete reasonably sized files."
This excellent article by Tim at about.com: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/filerecovery/tp/free-file-recovery-programs.01.htm
Tim even gives you advice on when to use a specific program and when not. I like it. Author promises they are all full versions... Or at least, not limited to preview or only small amount of files. My info sometimes contradict his insights. I chose the ones we both agree on:
- http://www.glarysoft.com/glary-undelete/
- http://www.pandorarecovery.com/features/ (Looks impressive!)
- http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/RESTORATION.html (Brian Kato - anyone??)
- http://www.adrc.com/software/data_recovery_tools/
- http://www.oemailrecovery.com/cd_recovery.html (should do HDD too?)
- http://tokiwa.qee.jp/EN/dr.html ("I don't think so, Tim" ;p)
- http://www.pcinspector.de/Default.htm?language=1 (File Recovery 4.x)
- http://www.pcinspector.de/SmartRecovery/info.htm?language=1 (for memory cards)
!! Also take a look at this wiki, from Giovanni :)
http://shodanproductions.com/wiki/index.php?title=Free_data_recovery
Giovanni gives us these extra programs, also truly free (and again; I differ on opinion with Giovanni of what is 'true' free;)
- http://www.ylcomputing.com/content/view/350/153 (WinUtilities Undelete 3.1)
- http://www.roadkil.net/program.php/P29 (Unstoppable Copier - robocopy alternative)
- http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Back-Up-and-Recovery/Abyssal-Recovery.shtml (CD/DVD only; product abandoned by development)
- http://www.isobuster.com/license-models.php (CD/DVD/BlueRay - mixed features; but when your format is supported, it is fully supported. Check the chart first)
And also from Giovanni (thx!), fully free when it comes to restoring PARTITIONS - ignore file recovery:
- http://www.powerdatarecovery.com/ (MiniTool Power Data Recovery Free)
- http://www.easeus.com/partition-recovery/ (EaseUS Partition Recovery)
So, all in all, a nice list.
And for todays Giveaway... We HATE data recovery licenses that are time-limited. You are the only one who does this. I do not think you are powerful enough to change the market in this respect...
Just in case, I'll post some other giveaways (and their downloads), here: http://scforum.info/index.php/topic,8555
Thank you all for this final 2013 round-up for truly free full featured data recovery software titles! Let 2014 Gremlins come...
... Peace!
Devvie

I for one am highly appreciative of the lists of free alternatives.
For Giovanni and Ashraf and anyone else assisting on this, please keep this up.
I very seldom comment, but I am probably one of numerous followers of good software that appreciate your excellent input.
I am also happy to try new giveaways, but unless there is something really exciting or extra on the giveaway, vs. other free alternatives, there is no point in wasting my time trying them.
The yearly charge on a data recovery programme is in my mind totally unwarranted and makes no sense to me.
