I can and will not trust a company that is hiding behind the
whois-privacy-service.net registration service. No hint of where this company is located nor who they are or what they do (beside writing overpriced software).
Sorry - I have to pass this one...
@23 Preston - there is a great promo discount - Grab the pro version for $9.95

When you read about the Network functionality and using remote catalogs it makes some of the existing comparisons less relevant.
I also use "Everything" (but only works on NTFS drives, and removable/network media isn't "Everythings" strength).
Everything does files & folders, FolderScout focuses on folders.
Listary does have a search as you type - but it only searches the current file dialog.
Listary does have a static "jump list" but I feel FolderScout does it better.
Listary does have better integration with common file dialogs, and integration with other file managers - such as Total Commander or xyplorer2. (FolderScout relies on copy/paste)
When someone jumps in to announce that the program they use is better than everything else - of course it depends on the task and user requirements - usually strong in one area, but weaker in another.
I'm a fan of free software, but when determining how good a piece of software is, you can't base everything on price. A piece of software doesn't become a better program if it halves in price or becomes free. The user might find owning/using the software has become more attractive - but the software itself hasn't become a better program. Good software should stand on it's merits independent of price.
When comparing software titles to the giveaway, rather than just hit google or download.com to search for everything else that sort of does the same thing (kinda) - to make any valid comparison or recommendation, you need to look at the features and specifically what the program does. It really helps if you use BOTH programs so you can make a comparison or recommendation.
Without explaining specifically "WHY" or "HOW" another program is better, the recommendation is worthless.
For people who post "Program X is what I use" - is about as useful when trying to compare software using the criteria "because I said so".
If the "Why" is simply "because it is free" - unless everything else is the same, that reason is also just wasting everyones time. Compare the software - anyone can compare a price sticker).
$29.95 for a file search utility. Get serious. And it only searches within your computer. Freeware utilities such as Everything(my favorite, Effective File Search[efs]shareware or even the unpaid version of AvaFind do a remarkable job of quick indexing.
If you use Windows 7, then the search bar, though slower but faster than in XP,negates the need for such software.
Thanks but get real with the price!

Hi Rollo,
Thanks for you comment. There are many reasons to use privacy ...
Here I am: About Folder Scout Labs
Folder Scout Labs is a Micro ISV company located at Seville, Spain - Europe.
The development team is as small as one person, like almost every Micro ISV's .
The Company is managed by Paul Scout (artistic name, of course), a professional programmer with more than twenty years of experience, son of the ZX Spectrum/Timex and the Commodore Amiga era.
Feel free to send an e-mail to support@folderscout.com if you have any question, comment, or suggestion. I will be happy to help you.
Kenyan, thanks for your comments.
29,95$ is the price for Professional Edition: Network Drives Search, Remote Catalogs (LAN/WAN environments), Autoschedule and Event Log. Standard Edition is 19,95$ (well, today is free, you can get it also for free from TrialPay, and we run 30% off campaigns on a monthly basis).
I agree with: so many alternatives out there, of course.
I always like to imagine two people together with two computers, one using Windows Search and another using Folder Scout. On a normal working day in the office (usually looking for folders) the effectiveness of Folder Scout is evident. Just give it a try. After all .. it's FREE.
