Downloaded and installed fine on Win 7 64-bit. Saw a dialog box that said the program was activated successfully, but it still said Evaluation on the top. Clicked on the Register button, but could not enter the key provided in the readme.txt. Likewise i could not open the readme.txt for the option to get license key from file. Eventually clicked middle option to enter license key, and saw a box to paste it in, and successfully registered the program. too much work!
I tried HyperCam 3 out. I cannot choose a window to record; the program crashes every time. My monitor is too large to use full screen, so I tried to select a region. It can be done, but is not as easy as I would like. Also the program minimizes to the taskbar while recording and it was not easy for me to find the button to stop recording. I did not see a list of shortcuts, but will lok more closely later.
Had to check a box on the Audio options to get sound recording. It is not checked by default.
Haven't figured out how to use the video editor. If that works well, this will be pretty good. Had quite a few choices of video codecs (I have K-Lite Mega pack installed).
Not sure it is any better than Camstudio 2.6 (freeware), which is what I am using now. I have been very disappointed in previous Giveawayoftheday screen capture programs. This one is better than the others so far.
Thanks for letting me evaluate HyperCam 3. Have not voted Yea or Nay so far. ;-)

"And the ability to edit your videos in the cutting-edge media editor already built into SolveigMM HyperCam"
Not even close to cutting-edge, I'd even call it very-poor.
Edits that can only be saved as an Avi or Asf is poor
Edit is just Trimming and even that is not frame accurate.
Cutting-edge = Frame accurate, Transitions, Colour Adjustment, Vol Adjustment, Overlays, And Produce in many format, MP4, MpegII, DVD, Xvid, Divx

I like this program. I was just using Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 before for screen capture but the free version does not allow capturing video in HD. So I am pleased to have a program now that can do that.
A few things:
(1) The selected region of recording will be shown with a red box on your screen which is excellent especially if you selected a specific region and wanted to make sure you know exactly what part of the screen you are capturing.
(2) The default hotkeys for start recording and stop recording do not work if the window you are in uses the F2 or F3 key. Luckily you can set your own hotkeys to avoid this problem.
(3) The default encoder produced terrible video quality but there are many others to choose from 'Options > Video > Video compressor'. I selected the 'Xvid MPEG-4 Codec' (last option) and changed the frame rate to 30 (The default was 12 or 18). This gave me smooth video.
(4) I like how there is a live help box near the bottom that shows what buttons do when you hover over them.
(5) The User Interface is designed rather well especially with the 4 option categories clearly shown at the top window when you click on the 'Options' tab and the application itself looks quite sleek.
Small Problem I'm Experiencing
I could not get the video quality to 1080p.
I tried going to Properties 'Xvid HD 1080' and then changed the quality slider to 1 (maximum quality) and then changed the framerate to 100 in the previous screen but I can only ever get 720p when I upload it onto YouTube. I've seen tutorials where people installed additional codecs and such to make it 1080p but I was wondering if anyone had got the settings to make it so without installing anything else. Thanks in advanced if anyone knows.
Recommended.

HyperCam 3 is a nice screen capture app from a decent company, Solveig Multimedia, but IMHO the reason to install/use it is if you need or want the included HyperCam Media Editor, an app to split/join avi & wmv files. For just plain screen capture video, e.g. recording video playing in your web browser, Screen2Avi does the same job for free, & a portable version is available [at videohelp.com: http://goo.gl/eFODH or the app's home page: http://goo.gl/6xzKe ]. Compared to Screen2AVI, HyperCam 3 does have a much nicer way of defining custom areas to capture, but you pay for it, & otherwise recording the same web video using the same codec was identical. If OTOH you're producing tutorials & such, Ashampoo's Snap 4 has a lot more features you'll probably appreciate, & in e-mails they've been advertising a sale price around $5. HyerCam 3 does not include a virtual audio driver, so if you can't record playing audio now, you won't be able to with today's GOTD installed... sorry.
Solvieg is known for their editing apps, e.g. trimmers & splitters, & they generally do work well to cut &/or join video clips of the same type without re-encoding -- that way you avoid generational loss, meaning quality in = quality out. And per the help file: "HyperCam Media Editor is a reduced version of SolveigMM Video splitter". If you have recorded video, the HyperCam Media Editor will let you cut out any commercials, giving you a single video file without the time & quality loss of re-encoding, but only if your recording is in a compatible format, i.e. avi or wmv. This is of more use for .wmv, since there are already quite a few apps [both free & paid] that do the same thing for .avi video files, though the HyperCam Media Editor [& other Solveig apps] does make it easier than many of those alternatives.
Running/using HyperCam 3 is very straightforward -- click Options, set your video codec, fps [Frames per Second], Output folder, & then on the 2nd tab, Audio source & format... the Interface tab lets you set hot keys while the Extras tab lets you do things like Capture mouse curser. Back at the Record window you select 1 of 3 choices, Region, Fullscreen, or Window. For the most part that's about it -- I like that they kept it so simple, but they could have included a button for the help file. What I think is a minor issue for most people, I could not set a fps of 29.976 -- there's very little real difference between 29.976, 30, & the 29.98 fps it let me set, but some things, some apps need 29.976 or they'll re-encode. One nice touch is that while recording HyperCam 3 minimizes to the taskbar with a mini-toolbar where you can easily Pause or Stop recording, though it doesn't show up that well, was a little too transparent for my tastes in win7 64 with aero on. Codecs available to use depend on what you have installed, which generally is as it should be -- screen capture apps that won't use the codecs you have are much more a problem... check sites like videohelp.com for a selection of codecs, or use Windows wmv, updated/added as part of Windows Media Player.
Installing HyperCam 3 is a bit higher impact, with a recorded 1100+ new registry entries, most for the several *.ax files stored in \Common Files\ Solveig Multimedia -- note that there's also an "unreg_all.bat" file in that same folder to remove those entries. That folder BTW holds 19 files, ~8 MB, while the program's folder weighs in at ~15 MB, with 46 files, 2 folders.
I've wanted to check out Screen2Avi for a little while, but I was waiting till I had another reason to turn Medium fonts off in win7 & fire up TimeFreeze [efficient or lazy, take your pick :-) ]... today was a perfect chance. I did like HyperCam 3, but even though it worked Much better than Screen2Avi selecting custom capture window sizes, to me that wasn't worth the added *.ax files registered with Windows -- it's not so much the added registry entries, but the possibility of some conflict with all the other video stuff I have installed, & if/when that sort of thing crops up in the middle of a project, it drives me nuts. Then again I have plenty of alternatives to the HyperCam Media Editor, & don't do much at all nowadays with .wmv, so the bonus of the editor really wasn't a bonus at all. If you're not worried about that sort of thing, want the editor, &/or work a lot with *.wmv, grab HyperCam 3 with a big thanks to GOTD.
