"The original name of this tool was GDocsDrive. It was renamed to Skyfiles in 2019."
I have the giveaway GDocsDrive 3.1 from a previous giveaway and it works without problems on Windows Vista
I have just installed this using the standard installer from the skyfiles.net website and it installed fine under Windows Vista and accepted the giveaway license key. I was able to give it access to my google drive and I note that although the installer does not pickup the GDocsDrive installation and does install this into its own Program Files sub folder it is not possible to run both GdocsDrive at the same time as Skyfiles client. It's not desirable to be able to run them at the same time anyway... except to have one configured for one google drive account and the other configured for a different google drive account... Both GDocsDrive 3.1 and Skyfiles 4.0 remain licensed and fully activated.
One potential problem I see is when one opens a google drive file with the default application using Skyfiles it downloads a copy of that file into a subfolder in the users %TEMP% folder %Temp%\SkyfilesTmpFolder\ each opened file is given its own unique folder name e.g. "1_F49nilt2c9A36x32JwXY0s_ZSGrz3iR" for one file and a second file in a folder named "1kHQTJ6v7JjOR_14IzwsvEFDdV5t8AXPT" This is sensible since it is possible to have the same file name in different google drive folders so if the same folder was used for the local copy of the file there could easily be file collisions where different files in different google drive folders using the same name could be opened at the same time. Like most programs Skyfiles 4.0 does NOT clean up the temporary files after it has finished with them! It also does not reuse the local temporary copy in the next session if it is opened again but instead re-downloads the file again into the same uniquely named temporary folder... If the file is not open in any program when the Skyfiles program exits it should purge the temporary files since it's not going to make any further use of them in future sessions.
So while there is no inital syncing of a local copy of an entire google drive onto the local hard drive it DOES download each file you choose to open in a local program (obviously) and if you edit the locally opened file and save it the program will upload the modified file to your google drive, replacing the original, it will not at any point tidy up the temporary folders it creates... it should delete them on clean exit of the program as part of the programs shutdown method but it does not so if you are concerned over wasted space delete the temporary files it created from time to time. Use a secure eraser program if you need to remove traces of the files from the local machine for personal security reasons and the system is not a TRIM supporting SSD that practically erases deleted files as a function of how it operates. But it is unlikely that you'd be storing sensitive documents on a google drive anyway...
