Not sure what #3 was referring to but it wasn't cNet's review of THIS offering. HERE is that review
http://download.cnet.com/The-Cleaner-2010/3000-8022_4-10915400.html
Here is their bottom-line "This program looks like a winner, with its professional design and appealing options, but we just couldn't be sure because of its limits."
In other words, the trial version sux. Of course, this version *isn't* the trial version. Not saying that this offering is the greatest thing on earth; just saying that cNet doesn't say about this what #3 said they said.
As for the listed freeware alternative of MalwareBytes, the better freeware alternative is SuperAntiSpyware IMHO.

Seems to be rated quite highly in some reviews, and average in others.
So i guess it should be a worthy addition. Free "Anti Malware" and others have simlilar ratings. But the lastest Free Microsoft Security Essentials, seems to be already doing a mighty job for me..
I might pass on this one, just in case of Conflicts with MSE

Cnet Review about The Cleaner: "This basic privacy-protection application performs its few jobs well enough, but it's far from a comprehensive solution. The Cleaner simply wipes away Web-surfing traces and deletes user history from a few Windows system areas, such as the Run menu and the Recycle Bin. Unfortunately, the app only works with Internet Explorer, neglecting support for popular alternative browsers. This program offers a tool for managing cookies, but unlike some of the better privacy programs on the scene, The Cleaner can't erase your tracks from third-party apps such as the Microsoft Office Suite, IM clients, or P2P programs. Needless to say, you also won't find a file shredder for permanently destroying data. A utility this simple really should be totally free, but you'll only be able to use this program 10 times before the demo expires. Inexperienced Internet Explorer users might appreciate The Cleaner's no-nonsense approach, but anyone wishing a to keep an extremely tight lid on their computer habits will need to keep searching. "

The Good
* Protects users against spyware, adware, trojans, rootkits, etc. - everything that isn't a virus.
* Allows users to define a "whitelist" to prevent false readings on software that user knows for sure are clean.
* Has real-time protection.
* Works fairly well side-by-side with other security software.
The Bad
* Doesn't provide much "value for the money" when compared to rival software.

I would like to address a couple of points here:
CONS: 1) Frequent false positives.
We don't have any data suggesting there are frequent false positives. If you are getting them please submit information or samples for evaluation.
2) No daily updates. Updates only twice/thrice a week.
Updates are daily or several times a day depending on the threats.
3) During update it downloads entire database of size ~18mb.
The database is updated incrementally. You do not have to download the full database.
4) Don’t scan for Malicious registry and cookies.
We do not believe there is such a thing as "malicious registry and cookies." The registry may point to malicious files which are detected and removed.
I am not sure whether any registry and browser monitoring is included in the realtime protection.
The realtime protection is for on-access files only.
The Cleaner has never been "off the market" in the 12 years it has been available.
